New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Among Huawei P20 series, P20 Pro recently got to experience the latest EMUI 9.1, while it’s lighter kin P20 Lite received the same a few weeks back. However, the original Huawei P20 has been left out, for users of the device have been gawking EMUI 9.1 while P20 Pro/Lite users have been relishing it.

Released in 2018, P20 is the Chinese tech giant Hauwei’s high-end phone fueled by Hisilicon Kirin 970 processor. The phone shipped with Android 8.1 (Oreo) with EMUI 8.1 on top out of the box, and is eligible for the latest EMUI 9.1 (Android Pie based), as we highlighted in one of our recent stories.

Cut to now. As per the latest information coming from Huawei P20 users on Twitter and Reddit, the device is already receiving the EMUI 9.1 update. That means, device holders will be able to enjoy GPU Turbo 3.0 and EROFS technology support after installing the patch. Hurray?.

The currently rolling out update (sized ~4GB) bumps the version to 9.1.0.311 and carries the latest July security patch along with the usual EMUI 9.1 goodies. Following are some of the user shared images of the update details as well as the changelog (in French).

Wait, as the good news doesn’t end here. Apart from Huawei P20, an Honor phone is also receiving EMUI 9.1. Which one? Honor 8 Pro – the OEM’s 2017 device, fueled with HiSilicon Kirin 960 and originally shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat.

Just recently, the phone was upgraded to EMUI 9.0/Android Pie, but the update was held back for some reason. While EMUI 9.0 was pulled (and the rollout is likely to be resumed in the first week of August), the OEM on the other hand stated Honor 8 Pro will get EMUI 9.1 by July 26.

And looks like, the phone has begun receiving EMUI 9.1 already. The update (sized 3.72GB) bears build number 9.1.0.212, and brings along GPU Turbo 3.0 and EROFS support, incoming call video and the latest security patch. Here are some user shared images of the changelog and firmware details:

It goes without saying that firmware updates are usually pushed out in batches, and therefore EMUI 9.1 may take time to reach out to all Huawei P20 and Honor 8 Pro devices. So hang in tight, as you may get to see the notification anytime now. Happy installation!

NOTE: The OEM has revealed EMUI 9.1 update HiCare registration dates for Huawei/Honor phones. You can read the complete coverage here. And for more Huawei/Honor updates, news, bugs/issues, interested readers may route here.

Update (August 3)

The July update reportedly trips SafetyNet for Huawei P20/P20 Pro, which renders Google Play unusable. P20 Pro also gets August security patch. Details here.
