Back in April, we came to know about the tentative roadmap of EMUI 9.1 rollout by Huawei. The Chinese OEM added a bunch of extra features (such as EROFS and GPU Turbo 3.0) in this little incremental update of their in-house skin.
HiSilicon 960 powered Huawei P10 and Huawei P10 Plus are part of that list. Both phones were launched in 2017 with Android Nougat on board. After receiving two major updates, they began to get this small-yet-significant OTA via beta channel around the mid of July.
The beta testing went fine, as the owners of the Plus variant of P10 reportedly received the stable update of EMUI 9.1 a few weeks ago. The build number was 9.1.0.252. Interestingly the regular P10 was left at that moment, but here we go! The OTA is now hitting Huawei P10 units across the globe as well.
The changelogs, even the software version numbers are identical between P10 and P10 Plus. We found evidence about the August security patch for these phone duos in Huawei update servers, but the company decided to push the July patches this time.
Wait, there’s more! A handful of Huawei P10 (Plus) users also received a minuscule OTA on top of this 9.1.0.252 build. The size of the update is merely 1 MB and the associated build tag refers it as ‘patch02’ over the latest software version.
The changelog mentions nothing but fingerprint related improvements, which is true according to the end users. The availability of this mysterious update is purely random – some got it after updating through HiCare, while it appeared automatically for some users after the gigantic 9.1.0.252 OTA.
I got this patch update for the first time ever since using my p10 and it improves the fingerprint unlock speeds and recognition. And it has improved considerably.

Fixing every minor detail is indeed an appreciable job, and Huawei is doing it well. Hope the P10 family will soon get the August security patchset, and you should be prepared to download a colossal update package once more.
