Huawei has one of the heaviest Android custom skins, but this doesn’t make it the worst out there. In fact, with the update to EMUI 9.1, the skin now runs smoothly with quick app launches while at the same time tagging along some cool new features such as EROFS and GPU TURBO 3.0.
Over the past several weeks, Huawei has been rolling out the updated EMUI 9.1 to multiple devices with the expected total set at 49 Huawei and Honor devices.
To date, more than 25 Huawei/Honor devices have received a stable update to EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9 Pie. Sure, we’ve documented some of these EMUI 9.1 releases here at PiunikaWeb, but not all of them.
The most recent EMUI 9.1 update we captured involved the Huawei P20 Lite. The update was spotted in India, but the rollout had already started elsewhere. Also, the Huawei P Smart 2019 recently got the nod just after the Mate 20 Lite and Mate RS Porche Design.
Earlier, the EMUI 9.1 update was also pushed to the likes of Honor View 20, Huawei Y9 Prime 2019, Huawei P10 Plus, Honor 9, Huawei Nova 3 & Nova 3i, Honor 10 Lite, Huawei P20 Pro & Honor View 10, Honor 20i, Huawei Y9 2019 & P30 Lite, Honor 7X, Huawei Mate 9, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, etc.
Well, the time has come for owners of the Huawei Nova 4e to download and install the updated EMUI 9.1 skin. The update is arriving as EMUI 9.1.0.215 (C636E4R2P1), up from 9.0.1.155 (C636E4R2P1) and looking at the region code (C636), this OTA is for the Asia-Pacific models.
As part of EMUI 9.1, Huawei Nova 4e users will also receive a new Night mode feature for the selfie camera. Yea, you guessed it right. It’s a feature for improving night photography for those who take lots of selfies.
For gamers, the new EMUI 9.1 update also tags along the support for GPU Turbo 3.0 graphics processing that improves performance when playing your favorite mobile titles. The update also simplifies some settings for easier access and navigation and improves sound in certain scenarios.
As expected, the Huawei Nova 4e will also get an updated Android security patch level dated July 2019. It’s not the latest version in town for sure, but with all the goodies that come with the new EMUI 9.1 update, not many will be bothered by this slightly old security patch level.
According to Huawei, the EMUI 9.1 update was first released on July 30 to a small section to test the waters. With everything going on as expected, the wider rollout kicked off on August 8 and as of this writing, more Huawei Nova 4e units in the Asia-Pacific region should be receiving the download.
It is expected to start pushing on July 30. If there is no public sentiment, it is expected to open on August 8.

We don’t have confirmation of when Huawei intends to spread the EMUI 9.1 love to more regions, but with the rollout having commenced, the wait should not be long. We will update you (and this post) when the OTA is available in more regions.
