Huawei, like a few other smartphone vendors, sometimes releases identical devices in multiple markets under different names.

For instance, in Europe, the device that is known as Huawei P Smart+ is known in India and other markets as the Huawei Nova 3i. These two share everything other than the names and perhaps their software update timelines.

A few days ago, Huawei P Smart+ owners in Europe reported receiving a new update that brought along the November security patch. The airborne update arrived as EMUI 9.1.0.264(C432E1R1P1).

This update rolled out a couple or so weeks after the Huawei Nova 3i picked up its November security update in India. Similarly, expect the P Smart+ to lag behind when it comes to receiving the latest December update, which is available in India.

Arriving as EMUI 9.1.0.267(C636E1R1P1) and weighing in at 132MB, the new Nova 3i December update is expected to provide further optimizations through bug fixes and stability enhancements.

Consecutive monthly security updates for Nova 3i/P Smart+

It’s kind of interesting to see the Nova 3i receiving the December security update in India following the release of the November patch earlier this month.

According to Huawei, the Nova 3i is among the devices expected to receive quarterly software updates, which basically means no security patches for consecutive months, yet here we are.

The fact that the Huawei P Smart+ also received the October security patch makes it even more interesting. If the device goes ahead to receive the December patch, it will be the third in a row.

We’ll have our eyes on the developments around this story and let you know if the P Smart+ picks up the December update. Meanwhile, check out more Huawei coverage here.
