For a long time, Huawei had set its eyes on surpassing Apple to become the second-leading smartphone vendor in the world. True to this, the most recent stats do reveal that indeed, the Chinese vendor is only second to Samsung, the global leader in the same business.

According to a report by Counterpoint Research, Apple now commands 10.1% of the global smartphone market share compared to Huawei’s 15.8% as of Q2 2019.

You could say the reason Huawei’s global dominance is growing steadily is the numerous devices the company pumps into the market at various price points, something that Apple simply can’t compete with.

On the other hand, it can also be argued that more people are beginning to have faith in the brand following some award-winning releases like the Huawei P20 Pro and its successor, Huawei P30 Pro.

Furthermore, Huawei’s global growth is helped by the greatly improved aftersales services, more so software updates. Just this month, for instance, the company has pushed the latest August security update to quite a number of devices, including some in the budget segment.

First was the Huawei P20 Pro in early August and then came the surprise packages in Huawei Watch GT and Huawei Watch Magic before the P30 and P30 Pro joined the party.

More recently, the August update arrived on the budget Honor 9 Lite & the nearly 2-year-old Honor 7X, Honor 8C, Honor 9N and Honor 10, just to name but a few. As I write this, the same August update has arrived on Huawei P Smart+ 2018 in Europe as EMUI 9.1.0.230.

In India and a few other markets, the same Huawei P Smart+ 2018 goes by the name Huawei Nova 3i, but the August update for this variant hasn’t arrived yet. Also receiving August security patch is the Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design that launched alongside the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro.

The update for the Mate RS carries EMUI version 9.1.0.313(C721E8R1P9), up from version 9.1.0.310(C721E8R1P9) that brought the stable EMUI 9.1 update to this handset. Unlike the Huawei Nova 3i update that weighs 119MB, the Mate RS update is heavy, weighing in at 3.63GB.

Usually, Huawei rolls out updates based on regions, however, there’s no defined roadmap the company follows. Now that the August updates are available for the Huawei P Smart+ 2018 and Mate RS Porsche Design in Europe, more regions should join in the fun pretty soon.

Meanwhile, you’ll be pleased to know that both Huawei Nova 3i or P Smart+ 2018 if you like and Mate RS Porsche Design are expected to receive the update to Android 10 with EMUI 10 on top.

EMUI 10 beta based on Android 10 arrives in September 2019

However, the wait could take weeks or months from now, so be patient as you wait.
