New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 28, 2020) follows:

Huawei, being one of the biggest and renowned smartphone manufacturers of the world, has to keep up with its reputation among the users by providing new products and also keep them updated.

Google made the Android 10 OS available back in September 2019, and after a long gap, finally, in January 2020, Huawei came up with its global EMUI 10 (Android 10) update roadmap for its smartphones.

Although the list included a bunch of smartphones, quite a few of Huawei and Honor devices were missing from the list. Prominent among them was the Huawei Y9 (2019).

In fact, it was confirmed by Huawei India that Huawei Y9 2019 will not be updated to Android 10 (EMUI 10) citing hardware limitations. But the Mate 20 Lite, which is powered by the same Kirin 710 SoC as Huawei Y9 2019, is currently testing the EMUI 10.

Annoyed by this, thousands of Huawei Y9 2019 users took to Change.org website and filed a petition to force Huawei in pushing the EMUI 10 update soon. Matter of fact, it seems that this trick has done the job.

Because according to a recent report, Huawei has retracted from their earlier statement of denying the EMUI 10 update for Y9 2019 and has responded to a user query on Twitter that the Huawei Y9 2019 will indeed get the Android 10 update in coming months.

Going by the trend, users of Nova 3/3i and Honor Play have also started petitions for their respective devices on Change.org.

Notably, there quite a few different petitions started by the Nova 3i users for EMUI 10 updates. This comes after it was recently confirmed officially that EMUI 10 update will not come for Huawei Nova 3i.

Honor Play users have also joined the bandwagon and started their own petition for the EMUI 10 (Android 10) update. Note that a similar petition was filed by the Honor Play users much before this recent petition.

We have reported earlier that the device was expected to get the Android 10 update somewhere in March. However, the official date was not confirmed.

Huawei and Honor are yet to respond to these petitions for the Nova 3/3i and Honor Play devices. We will keep you in the loop until we have some more information in this regard.

In the meantime, let us know your thoughts about this new step taken by several Huawei and Honor users for getting their voice heard and should you think a similar strategy should be taken up by the users of other OEMs or not??

Update (February 3, 2020)

Honor Play users are petitioning against Huawei to develop Android 10 for the device or allow them to unlock the bootloader to install custom firmware. Details here.
