It’s been all over the place that China has warned India of repercussions if they get in the way of the tech giant Huawei’s 5G infrastructure trials, the same 5G which was the center piece of the entire US-China trade war episode. Huawei knows no stopping when it comes to 5G.
Despite being caught in the eye of the storm lately, the company released their first 5G device – which is more like a 5G variant of Huawei Mate 20 X – in their home country on July 26. Just like Mate 20, Mate 20 X 5G embraces a 7.2-inch display, Kirin 980 SoC, trio rear camera, fingerprint scanner etc.
But there of course are some changes. Like the 5G model supports 40W fast charge compared to 22.5W of Mate 20 X, comes in a single variant of 256GB storage+ 8GB RAM, and has a reduced battery of 4200 mAh compared to 5000 mAh of the standard variant.
Debuted in China, now the phone’s sale expansion to other regions is being targeted by the OEM. Amid all this, Mate 20X 5G is now getting a new update, that too a major one, for it adds 30x zoom to the device’s camera. Oh yeah, that means enhanced photography.
The patch sized about 4GB, bears build number 9.1.1.158 and apart from adding the 30x zoom for highly zoomed pictures also brings in communication and system-related enhancements. Here’s what the complete changelog reads (translated from Chinese, so don’t mind the linguistic errors):

Optimize the power consumption of some scene systems, extend the battery life to optimize the stability of the system, and make your mobile phone run more stable.
All this info comes from a Mate 20X 5G user at Huawei’s China help forum who received the OTA notification. As is usually the case with airborne updates, they’re pushed out in phases, so it’ll take time for this patch to land on all Huawei Mate 20X 5G variants.
But once it does, device owners can enjoy the newly added 30x camera zoom feature. Hang in tight, as the OTA notification may pop-up anytime. Happy installing?! For those interested in more coverage on Huawei-related updates, news, bugs/issues, you can find everything here.
