The 5G master race is on, and Samsung secured the pole position with the 5G edition of Galaxy S10. OnePlus 7 Pro 5G became the second candidate in this elite roster, partnering with carriers like UK’s EE and Finland’s Elisa.
Wait a minute, what about Huawei – one of the largest Android OEMs in the world? Worry not, as the Chinese telecom giant already announced a dedicated 5G variant of Huawei Mate 20 X.
Dubbed as Mate 20 X 5G (as expected), the 5G capable phone is virtually identical to the regular LTE model. One of the prime differences is a smaller battery – 4,200 mAh instead of 5,000 mAh. However, the 5G models features 40W Huawei SuperCharge.
The other distinctive feature is obviously the additional 5G radio. Unlike most other 5G phones, Huawei used their in-house Balong 5000 multi-mode 5G chipset.
Well, looks like some other changes have been made on the 5G variant. Thanks to a bunch of high quality renders posted by Slashleaks contributor Teme (特米) / @RODENT950, we can now confirm that the 3.5 mm headphone jack is not there!
On the other hand, the official specifications page of Mate 20 X 5G has been silently updated. There is no reference 3.5 mm jack anymore!
Moreover, the stereo speaker of Mate 20 X did not make it to the 5G model. The following render clearly shows a one-sided mono speaker grill.
The full set of renders can be seen here. We still don’t know why did Huawei remove two important components from the 5G variant of Mate 20 X. Perhaps performance constraints or design issues?
