[Update: EMUI 10] Huawei Mate 10 and Honor V20 (View 20) family get another beta recruitment before EMUI 10 rollout

The tussle with the US Government has hit Huawei hard. Despite running on Android 10-based EMUI 10, their latest offerings (Mate 30 and Mate 30 pro) don’t have core Google apps. For the exact same reason, the potential buyers may hesitate to go with those.

Yes, the OEM has included the latest Android 10 on the Mate 30 series. And so far, no other Huawei smartphone runs on EMUI 10 stable build. However, the brand started recruiting P30/ P30 Pro users for the beta version in the beginning of this month. A week later, they rolled out the update.

Today, they began inviting Huawei Mate 20 and Honor 20 users to register for EMUI 10/Magic UI 3.0 beta. They will close the recruitment window on September 23 at 24:00 Beijing time. And, each device won’t accommodate more than 2000 beta testers.

On the Huawei Club, the company started recruiting for another beta build. Intended for Mate 10 and Honor View 20 users, the announcement reads it is EMUI 9.1 feature beta update, certainly not Android 10 (EMUI 10). Maybe it is to prepare the units for the upcoming major OS overhaul (similar to OxygenOS open beta 17 for OnePlus 6T).

Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Mate 10 Porsche, and Honor V20 users are eligible for the registration. For the first three, the device should be on EMUI 9.1.0.233 or 9.1.0.234. For the View 20 (V20), the firmware version must be 9.1.0.321 to receive the beta update.

The staff member has cleared the confusion on the bottom in a comment saying the recruitment is not for EMUI 10 beta. You can read the comment below (it’s in Chinese and we translated it to English).

This post is a new feature release for EMUI 9.1/Magic UI 2.1, not for EMUI 10.0 and Magic UI 3.0. EMUI10.0/Magic UI 3.0 will open recruitment later.

Yeah, all we are talking about is Chinese models here. We expect them to invite global beta testers soon. In case you reside in China, you will have to bear one thing in mind before you jump out to register.

Beta builds usually come out with bugs and issues. Brands use them to collect bug reports and user feedbacks so that they can improve the public version. If you can cope up with a few issues, beta build is not going to be a hassle for you.
