Huawei changes monthly/quarterly update plan for some devices - Mate 20 Lite, Mate 10 lite, and others demoted

Many phone-makers like Huawei have been able to roll out monthly security update to many devices under their portfolios, to varying levels of efficiency. We have seen some phones get the update within a week of their deployment and others, well over a month after that.

Huawei has one of the largest catalogs of devices from the ultra-premium Mate series to the mid-range devices to the entry-level devices. Keeping all these devices updated to the latest monthly patches is tedious and as such, Huawei is making a few changes.

According to Huawei Central, the giant Chinese OEM is now committing to rolling out quarterly updates to the Huawei Mate 20 Lite and the Huawei Mate 10 Lite. Previously, these two devices were said to get monthly updates.

With this new change, the following Huawei devices will only get quarterly updates: Huawei Y9 Prime 2019, Y9 2019, Y9 2018, Y6 2019, Y6 Pro 2019, Y6 2018, Y5 2019, Y5 2018, Y5 Prime 2018, Y5 Lite, Y5 Lite 2018, Y3 2018, Y MAX, Huawei Mate 20 Lite, Mate 10 Lite, Honor 20i, Honor 10i, Honor 10 Lite, Honor 9 Lite, Honor 9N, Honor 9i, Honor Play, Honor 8A, Honor 8X, Honor 8S, Honor 8C, Honor 7X, Honor 7S, Huawei Nova 5T, Nova 4, Nova 3, Nova 3e, Nova Lite 3, Nova 3i, Huawei MediaPad M5 (8.4″ & 10.8″), M5 Pro, T5 (10.1″), M5 lite (10.1″ & 8.0″).

As mentioned, the new additions to this list include the HUAWEI Y9s and HUAWEI Y6s. Earlier lists included the Honor 7X. This device has not been mentioned here. It is still unclear what this means.

Huawei update is also committing itself to update the following to the latest security patches on a monthly basis.

Huawei P30 Pro, P30, P20 Pro, P20, Huawei Mate 20 X, Mate 20 RS, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20, Mate 20 Lite, Mate 10 Pro, Mate 10, Mate 10 Lite, Mate RS Porsche Design, Honor 20, Honor 20 Pro, Honor View20/V20, Honor 10, Honor View10/V10.

This is a rather extensive list of devices that Huawei needs to support with frequent updates.

This list is bound to change every now and then as new devices get released and others hit their 2-year support period. We will strive to keep this list as up-to-date as possible.
