The in-house Kirin processors are part of the hidden mantra behind the success of Huawei (as well as Honor). Not only they help the Chinese OEM to maintain the fascinating price-performance ratio, but these chips are also responsible for quicker update delivery.

Believe it or not, the company recently started delivering Android 10-based stable EMUI 10 update to a bunch of phones from 2017! However, Huawei faced a serious backlash from the community as they allegedly planned to abandon a capable device from getting the long-anticipated update.

Yes, we are talking about Honor Play

The phone was launched back in July 2018 and is powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 970 chipset making it one of the most capable mid-rangers, even today. During the beginning of this month, Honor Play received the November security patch.

Well, time for something new! And no, this is not remotely related to Android 10.

This update that weighs in at a rather small 25 MB, brings an interesting feature. The changelog states that;

This update adds the MEETime feature, allowing you to make HD video calls with beauty effects over WLAN or data traffic.

The update brings up the software version running on this device up to 9.1.0.147 from 9.1.0.139. The changelog is pretty much generic, so don’t expect any hidden easter egg. Back in mid-November, the phone received October security patch update.

The last candidate of this series is Honor View 10, receiving December security patch. Weighing in at a rather reasonable 272 MB, this update brings the software version running on this device to 9.1.0.359.

Honor View 10 is scheduled to get stable EMUI 10 update very soon, as the beta participation went live globally a few days ago.

It is a welcome sight, seeing these Android phones from diverse price-points getting monthly security updates and general bug fixes. This used to be a perk only enjoyed by flagship devices, but it appears Android really has come a long way as a platform.
