Honor as a sub-brand of Huawei has its own fork of EMUI called Magic UI. Top-end phones, such as Honor View 20 as well as Honor 20/20 Pro are already running Android 10 in the form of Magic UI 3.0. However, not all Honor phones have the same privilege.
Earlier today, we reported about Honor 8X getting first EMUI 10 beta in India. However, the Chinese OEM is somewhat abandoning another popular device from getting the taste of Android 10. We are talking about none other than Honor Play.
The phone was launched back in the third quarter of 2018. It features 6.3″ IPS LCD display and is powered by Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset, paired with a beefy 3,750 mAh battery. It comes in a storage config of 64 GB storage and 4/6 GB of RAM.
From the spec sheet, you can see why this device is rather appealing.
Honor, like many OEMs today, has maintained a rather decent track record when it comes to pushing out updates to their devices. Honor Play has also received a good number of security updates. Most recently, we saw the device get the September security patch update via software version 9.1.0.336.
Sticking to the same consistency in pushing out updates, the Honor Play is receiving an update (9.1.0.341) to the October security patch. However, the build is still based on Android Pie.
Changelog
This update improves system security with Google security patches.
[Security]
Integrates Google security patches released in October 2019 for improved system security.

As this is an OTA update, it might take a while before it finally arrives on your device. Honor, in the release notes, promises that all users will be covered by the latest OTA update tentatively by December 5, 2019.
Also, while the release notes say that the update brings with it the October Android Security patch, it is not the only improvement it bundles. Honor says that the update comes with system improvement, bug fixes and more.
Android 10/EMUI 10
Well, whether or not the Honor Play will get EMUI 10 based on Android 10 is a little hard to tell right now. All factors considered the phone is perfectly capable of running newer iterations of Android without any hiccup.
But Honor India issued a response stating that the Honor Play did not meet the minimum requirements for Android 10.
However, further developments suggested that Huawei might reconsider their decision. Hopefully, Honor Play owners will get the opportunity to participate in the beta testing. Cross your fingers!
