Honor 9 Lite & Honor Band 5 getting new updates

Huawei has been hitting headlines for quite some time due to their tussle with the U.S. government amidst security and compliance issues. After that there were rumors and reports surrounding the development of a completely new operating system for the Huawei smartphones.

This step was taken when Google banned Huawei to use any of its services on its devices due to escalating tensions between Huawei and the U.S. government. However, Huawei do came up with the Harmony OS or the HongMeng OS. The new OS is meant for many devices including laptops, tablets, fitness watches, etc.

Moreover, Huawei has also been trying to catch up with other OEMs in terms of providing security and other performance related updates to all its devices. And recently, Huawei has rolled out an update for the Honor 9 Lite as well as the Honor Band 5 fitness band.

Talking about the update received on the Honor 9 Lite, it carries version number 9.1.0.130 (C675E5R1P4), and weighs 203 MB in size. Also, note that the update is for Indian users of Honor 9 Lite with device model LLD-AL10.

Note that this update does not increment your security patch level to September and you will continue to have the August Security patch on your device. And as other updates, this update is also rolled out via OTA and will reach your device soon.

However, in the previous update for the Honor 9 Lite, it received the August security patch and it is pretty weird that the device has not yet received the September security patch even though we are almost halfway through September 2019.

Coming over to the fitness band by Honor i.e. the Honor Band 5 is now receiving a new update that brings in new features and add-ons. The update carries version number 1.1.0.92 and weighs 7.23MB in size. Here’s what the changelog reads:

This version adds language select and optimize the system stability, strongly recommend you to upgrade to use it.

1. Adding language selected when first boot up.
[Optimization]
1. Optimize the skip smooth of first-level menu.
2. Optimize the system stability.
3. Modify some known bugs.

There is a “Warm Reminder” included in the change log as well which tells the update will take about 20 minutes to install and also to keep the device charged to about 30% for smooth installation. Also, it prompts the user to keep the Bluetooth connection ON during the upgrade process.

Huawei is now gearing up for the launch of the Huawei Mate 30 which is officially banned from using the Google apps and services, it will be pretty interesting to see whether we will see the HongMeng OS on this device or not. However, in a recent report on FirstPost, Huawei’s Senior VP, said:

Huawei would like to maintain its current Android ecosystem on smartphones and will only use Harmony OS as a plan B in the case sanctions are again imposed on it.

They further said that the company has no plans to release a Harmony OS powered smartphone, this year. It will be interesting to see what the company plans for its future smartphones.
