PSA: We do understand the recent Huawei ban episode must have raised firmware update-related concerns for you as a Huawei/Honor phone user. While the final picture is still unclear, at least for another 3 months, Google will be working with Huawei. That means, the scheduled updates in the coming 90 days (starting May 20th) should be releasing as planned. But what after that, well, that depends on Huawei’s fate in the US.

This story is being continuously updated….new updates are being added at the bottom…..

Huawei and their sub brand Honor have been quite transparent in sharing the schedule for Android 9.0 Pie’s (EMUI 9.0) roll out on compatible phones. The Chinese OEM has been actively addressing user queries and updating device owners about the change in plan through social media channel Twitter.

Take for example Honor 9N and 9 Lite, Pie roll out for which was earlier expected to happen by the end of June. But now, the company seems to have preponed Pie’s arrival on both devices. Going by their latest statements on the matter, the updates may be pushed out in May end instead on June.

Here’s what Honor India recently said while reverting back to a Honor 9N user inquiring about Android Pie/EMUI 9.0 on Twitter:

our software team has confirmed the compatibility of device with Android Pie and expected to be released the final version of Android Pie in batches tentatively by the end of May’19

They said something similar while responding to a Honor 9 Lite user.

So the wait for Honor 9N and 9 Lite users will hopefully end sometime by the end of this month.

Moving on, while Honor 8X already got to taste the much-awaited Pie a couple of months back, users of its predecessor Honor 7X are still waiting for Pie to land on their units.

For a quick refresher, powered by HiSilicon Kirin 659, Honor 7X was released in 2017. The phone originally came boxed with Android Nougat, EMUI 5.1, and was bumped to Android Oreo 8.1 last year. Since then, curious device owners have been inquiring when are they going to get Pie.

While the company has been sharing a clear time frame regarding Pie’s arrival on other phones, in case of 7X they’ve been giving conflicting statements. Just last month, while reverting back to one of the users, Honor India said device compatibility has been confirmed.

However, a day later, to another user they informed the update is still under evaluation.

Rest assured, we are keeping a close tab on the matter and will update the story as and when the promised update gets live.

Back in April, Huawei India said EMUI 9 should be landing anytime on P20 Lite as the company plans to release it by month end.

Android Pie and expected to be released the final version of Android Pie in batches tentatively by end of Apr’19.

April ended and the update was no where to be seen. As for the latest development on the matter, a few days back, the company informed that Pie update for P20 Lite has been delayed and will be rolled out in June instead. Here’s what Huawei India said regarding the matter:
