Harry Potter Wizards Unite Fan Festival Global Challenge & Day of the Dragons event

Niantic announced the Harry Potter: Wizards Unite fan festival on August 16,  which is happening at White River State Park in Indianapolis on August 31 and September 01. With this event, dragons are making their first appearance in the game as Oddities.

During the event, attendees will assist Charlie Weasley, expert Dragon-handler in unique assignments revolving around these beasts. Attendees will get the chance to encounter all four dragons during the event. After the conclusion of the event, dragons will depart to their respective regions and will be made available to everyone.

Global players will also get the chance to encounter dragons specific to their regions during a special 3-hour ‘Day of the Dragons’ event on September 7. But to unlock the event, Wizards Unite Fan Festival attendees will have to return a total of 150,000 dragons.

Global players won’t be able to attend the Wizards Unite Fan Festival, so Niantic is organising an exciting event for them. It will be called as ‘Fan Festival Global Challenge’. Under this challenge, players will encounter new types of Portekey Portmanteaus throughout the weekend.

Each of these special Portmanteaus will contain a Portkey that will transport you to the Forbidden Forest where players will have the opportunity to collect one of four Dragon Eggs. Players will easily be able to identify these Portmanteaus on the map as they will match the colour of the Dragon egg found within.

Collecting a certain number of Dragon Eggs will unlock special rewards starting on September 2 at 10 am PDT until September 9 at 10 am PDT. Niantic will count every egg that players will collect during the event.

If the collection reaches a required milestone, then players will unlock special rewards during the timeline mentioned above. Each dragon egg collection milestone will offer different rewards which have been detailed in the image below.

But there is a twist around the special Day of the Dragon event as players will get the chance to encounter a dragon which does not typically visit their region. The spawning of the Dragon will be based on the type of Dragon Egg which players have collected more across their region.

For example, if players in Asia will collect more Chinese Fireball eggs, then they will encounter Chinese Fireball oddities during the three-hour event on September 7 and receive bonus XP for all Dragons returned during the Day of the Dragons event.
