[Android too] BREAKING: Google Translate dark mode feature arrives in latest update, at least on iOS

Google introduced system-wide dark mode with the new Android 10 OS last September. However, it might still take some time before all Android devices receive this OS.

Sure, you can force all Google apps into dark mode on Android 10, but even better is that it’s possible to enable dark mode in some Google apps on devices running Android Pie or even iOS for that matter.

Many will agree that system-wide dark mode will never reach all Android devices for obvious reasons, but the good side of the story is that various app developers can also add this feature on a per-app basis.

This way, even those on older Android platforms or iPhones (iOS) can also enable and disable dark mode in individual apps as they wish. But some app developers are taking their sweet time to add this feature, including Google themselves.

As of this writing, users of Google Translate can finally get out of the waiting list and start enjoying dark mode. However, this is only true for iOS users of the app, with those on Android expected to join the party later on.

The new feature is arriving as part of the latest update to the Google Translate app to version 6.5.0, also tagging along a fix for the issue where clearing text entered with voice input was proving to be a nightmare.

It’s not known when the Android version will get the same update, but it shouldn’t be long now that iOS users have it. We will update this post when the feature arrives.

Android is also getting the same Google Translate dark mode feature as part of the update to version 6.5. The app is available to download via the Play Store, although this may be a server-side switch given that the changelog doesn’t mention anything to do with dark mode.
