Android has come a long way. Over the years, the platform has picked up new features and dropped others while at it. Even though it’s not always that whatever happens ends up being a welcome change for users, there is little they can do because after all, Google calls the shots.

One feature that was there during the days of Android Froyo but somehow disappeared into thin air is the ability to download multiple app updates in the Google Play Store.

Yeah, back in the Android Market days, it was possible to download multiple app updates all at once, but of course, this had a drastic effect on the performance of devices considering the weak hardware at the time compared to what we have today.

In April this year, reports surfaced suggesting that Google had plans to revive this feature, somehow. At the time, traces of ongoing tests popped up online, but seven months down the line, the feature hasn’t materialized.

As I write this, though, a Redditor on a Redmi Note 5 handset running Android 9 Pie has shared a screenshot of Google Play Store simultaneous app downloads, suggesting that the search giant could be getting ready to flip the switch on, this time for real.

Google Play Store now allows simultaneous downloads!

What happens with Play Store simultaneous app downloads is that whenever multiple apps are waiting to update, simply tap on the option to update all and concurrent downloads begin streaming in. As you can see below, both Spotify and Screen Recorder apps are downloading updates at the same time.

This is unlike for the majority of Play Store users where one app starts to download its update and when done, the next app begins. This can be annoying if you have multiple apps to update, but the simultaneous app downloading feature is here to address this shortcoming.

The last time the Google Play Store simultaneous app downloading showed up, it was triggered from the sever-side. From the look of things, this second coming of the feature is the same case. Do let us know if you have it on your end via the comments section below.

A techy. Besides phones, I also enjoy the farm, music, football, and, of course, food.
