Bunch of new updates are now available for smartphone users of different OEMs. Notably, Google Pixel devices, Sprint variants of the Samsung Galaxy A50, Galaxy S10 Lite, and LG V40, LG G8 ThinQ, several Nokia phones like Nokia 1, 3, 5.1 Plus, 6.1, 7 Plus, 7.1 and Nokia 8.1 are getting the updates.

However, it is the Google Pixel devices that are getting the latest March 2020 security patchset while the other phones mentioned above, are getting the February 2020 patch.

These security updates are something that you should not ignore as they bring in the latest security updates as well as improvements and optimizations for the phones. So, let us take a look at the updates, one by one:

(March 2020 update)

Google Pixel Phones

Google Pixel phones are the devices that are always in line, to receive the latest updates on a priority basis (for obvious reasons). But, there have been some incidents in the past where, Google was not able to deliver the latest updates to its Pixel phones.

PiunikaWeb readers should know that there was a huge delay in rolling out the December 2019 update to many of the Pixel phone owners.

Matter of fact,  Samsung has beaten Google thrice this year, in pushing security updates, and it was the first OEM to make March 2020 security update live for its Galaxy M30s users.

However, Google has now joined the bandwagon and is now pushing the March update for its Pixel phones via the Pixel Drop feature.

For naive, the Pixel Drop feature is exclusive for Pixel users and you will get app-specific improvements for Pixel devices. With the help of the Pixel Drop feature, the software updates will also be pushed more speedily and regularly.

Talking about the update, there are tons of new features for the Pixel devices. Now you can easily pause or resume the music track by just tapping over the gesture above the phone.

The Personal Safety app that was launched for Pixel 4 users back in October 2019, that checks whether you are in a car crash or you need any services via the sensors on your phone. To call 911, you just needed to use the voice command or do a single tap. Now, this feature is also made available for the users in Australia (000) and the UK (999).

Live caption is also now live for the Pixel 2 users. New AR effects have been added to Duo video all feature. Pixel 4 front camera has been improved to take better Portrait images, and create 3D photos with Facebook.

Additionally, 169 emojis have been added with Emoji 12.1 update. You can now press and hold the Power button to quickly and conveniently choose the correct card while using Google Pay. This feature will be available to users in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Taiwan, and Singapore.

You can now, take a screenshot of the boarding pass barcode and add it to Google Pay to get real-time flight status. Just press the Power button to pull up your boarding pass.

Dark theme has been improved and now users can set to change the dark theme based on the time of the day. Now your phone can automatically set to silent mode when you enter certain WiFi or physical location. And there are certain other Pixel 4 specific features as well.

(February 2020 update)

Sprint Galaxy A50, LG V40, and LG G8

One of the major US carriers, Sprint, has made the February 2020 security update for the Samsung Galaxy A50, LG G8, and LG V40 smartphones.

Talking about the updates, it arrives with the version number ATA2 for Galaxy A50, version PKQ1.190202.001 for LG V40, and version V20e for LG G8 handsets.

Galaxy S10 Lite

The recently launched Galaxy S10 Lite is also getting a new update. Note that the update is live for the users in India and arrives with the version number ATB2.

Nokia 1, Nokia 3, Nokia 5.1 Plus, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 8.1

Nokia is a brand that has been regular in providing security updates for its handsets. February update has been pushed for the users of Nokia 9 and 2.1 before. The rollout is now expanded to more number of devices.

  • Nokia 1 (Build info: Android 9 Pie Go Version) is getting the February 2020 update with version V2.20B and it weighs around 85.2 MB. in size.
  • Nokia 3 February 2020 update weighs around 89.4 MB in size.
  • Nokia 5.1 Plus is also getting February 2020 security patch that sizes around 63.9 MB.
  • Nokia 6.1 is getting updated in the USA and globally as well and it sizes about 55.2 MB.
  • Nokia 6.1 Plus is updated to the February patch and the update weighs around 18 MB in size.
  • Nokia 7 Plus is also updated with the February patch and it sizes around 54.8 MB.
  • Nokia 7.1 handset February update sizes around 19.4 MB.
  • Nokia 8.1 February 2020 update weighs around 8.4 MB.
