The whole Samsung community, or at least the One UI lovers are very much excited about the arrival of the second generation of Samsung’s custom skin. Based on Android 10, the initial beta of One UI 2.0 should be applicable for Galaxy S10 and Note 10 users first. Older devices will be added in the roster with time.
Galaxy S9, i.e. the immediate predecessor of S10, has already received the backported camera night mode feature – even on US carrier branded models. However, the phone is stuck with September security patch level for a while.
Samsung pushed October patches for Galaxy S10 family across the globe. Galaxy Note 10 lineup received a similar treatment a few days ago with additional camera and keyboard sound related enhancements. Well, international Exynos powered Galaxy S9/S9+ are now part of the same club.
The internal version number is bumped from CSI4 to CSJ1, where the letter ‘J’ indicates that this particular build was compiled in this month (October). Interestingly, Samsung also introduced a new bootloader (v7), which means downgrading is not possible after flashing this update.
It could be possible that the new bootloader is a part of the grand plan of moving to Android 10/One UI 2.0, but don’t take my words for it just yet. Currently the update is rolling out in Germany via Vodafone, but a wider distribution should start soon.
Oh, and we have a really good news for US unlocked Galaxy S9 users on T-Mobile!
Allow me to explain: this particular variant of Galaxy S9 got August patch months ago. A subsequent software update even brought camera night mode and QR code scanner, but users having T-Mobile SIM didn’t get any of them. Believe it or not, they are glued with January patch ever since the One UI update!
We are not sure why T-Mobile skipped so many monthly patches in between, but it is good to see the progress. While it is possible to cross-flash the OTA package using tools like Frija in conjunction with ODIN, that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
