Samsung Galaxy Fold gets DeX for PC & unofficial TWRP support

A new Samsung Galaxy Fold software update is now rolling out to the device with the same Android security patch for the month of November 2019, the version that rolled out to the device about two weeks ago.

The LTE variant of the Galaxy Fold received its November security patch as software version F900FXXS2ASK1. This rollout was spotted in Europe’s France before it spread out to other markets where the Fold is sold.

Today, the French are receiving yet another Galaxy Fold update with the same November security patch, but there are a couple of new introductions to tag along.

First is the new firmware version that now reads as F900FXXU2ASKB, up from the previous build ASK1. With the new build number also comes a new feature – support for DeX for PC.

With DeX for PC, Galaxy Fold users will now be able to connect the handset to a PC using a USB cable and then use the PC’s peripherals (monitor, keyboard and mouse) to interact with the phone.

Prior to the incoming Galaxy Fold update, the foldable handset still had support for Samsung DeX mode, but the addition of DeX for PC makes using DeX mode hassle-free. It’s as simple as downloading the app, plugging the Fold into your PC via a USB cable and boom, you’re all set.

Elsewhere, the Galaxy Fold has just gained unofficial TWRP support. Modders and tinkerers will know what this means – that you can now do fancy stuff like flashing Magisk quite easily and painlessly.

Even better is that fans can now think about custom ROMs to experience something different with alternative features they might like better, but of course, the device needs to have an unlocked bootloader for all these to happen.

This unofficial TWRP support is now available for both the LTE and 5G Galaxy Fold variants with model numbers SM-F900F and SM-F907B, respectively. This is part of the updated TWRP version 3.3.1, which can be downloaded from this XDA thread.
