Samsung Galaxy A10, A10s, A20 & A30 pick up January 2020 security update

No wonder Samsung outperformed Google – at least in the game of providing monthly security updates – as the Mountain View giant is facing some serious issues to defend their title. The Korean company, on the other hand, pushed the January 2020 patch for Galaxy S9 a few weeks ago.

Even if you ignore the above example for being a beta channel update, Samsung also published the same for Galaxy A50 and Galaxy Tab S5e via stable channel. Hold your breath, as the OEM is now expanding the rollout by adding a bunch of other A-series phones.

Galaxy A10

Announced back in February 2019, Galaxy A10 features a 6.2 inch IPS LCD display, Exynos 7884 chipset, a 3,400 mAh battery and 32 GB of internal storage.

Samsung is rolling out the January patch to the phone, rather for the SM-A105G variant to be precise. This update brings the software version from ASK3 to ASL4.

On top of the updated Android security patch level, the Galaxy A10 gets a New bootloader (v6). The update is still based on Android 9.

Galaxy A10s

In case of Galaxy A10s (SM-A107F variant), the update comes with software version number ASL3. Other than the updated Android security patch level, the phone also gets a new bootloader (from v3 to v5).

Galaxy A10s was announced in August 2019 and features a 6.2 inch IPS LCD display. Unlike the regular Galaxy A10, A10s is powered by MediaTek Helio P22 chipset. It gets a 4,000 mAh battery and same old 32 GB storage.

Galaxy A20

Galaxy A20 is one of the best selling mid-rangers in many markets, probably due to the sweet balance between performance and price. The 720p HD+ display, while a little low-res for 2019, still offers a good viewing experience due to the AMOLED tech.

The update, which is rolling out to the SM-A205F variant of the Galaxy A20, brings the January 2020 Android patch and a new (v5) bootloader. You can identify this update by its build number, ASL2.

Galaxy A30

The last candidate in the list to secure the January 2020 security patch is Galaxy A30. Another very popular device from Samsung’s A-lineup in 2019, the device is rumored to receive Android 10 update very soon.

The January update is rolling out to the SM-A305F variant of the phone. This OTA bumps the software version from ASK3 to ASL1. Following the trend, Galaxy A30 is also getting a new bootloader (v4).

Thanks to the new bootloaders, owners of these phones can not downgrade to older software versions anymore after installing the January 2020 patch. Could this be an indication towards the arrival of Android 10 for them? Comment below.
