The reception towards OEM skins from the perspective of the Android community is kinda polarizing. Fans of Google’s stock Android can’t deal with Xiaomi’s MIUI, whereas some users find the UI/UX features introduced by OEMs like Samsung quite significant.

According to many, OxygenOS from OnePlus maintains a proper balance between the leanness of vanilla Android and an array of useful features. With the release of OnePlus 7 series, the OEM introduced OxygenOS 9.5 – a minor bump in the version number with plenty of new features.

The Shenzhen based OEM promised to backport most of the hardware-independent features to older OnePlus phones (in fact they have already initiated the process). But the absence of Digital Wellbeing in OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 started to fume confusions.

As a matter of fact, OnePlus did rollout the Digital Wellbeing feature for OnePlus 7 Pro via a short-lived OTA update. Later on, they removed the component from OxygenOS 9.5 although latest Open Beta builds for OnePlus 5/5T and 6/6T contain the app.

Thanks to an anonymous tipster, we can now confirm that Digital Wellbeing is surely going to come to the OnePlus 7 series, preferably in the upcoming OTA update. Unlike Samsung or Huawei, OnePlus simply uses Google’s Digital Wellbeing app in the OxygenOS.

In a recent interaction with the community, an OxygenOS Operations team member confirmed that the ‘step counter’ functionality should be coming to OxygenOS.

Q: Will OnePlus add a step counter in a future update?

A: We will merge this feature into the routine of OnePlus Shelf development to bring this functionality to you without adding any bloatware to the system.

Well, the feature is indeed there, but in a half baked stage. The OEM also revamped the charging animation with a nifty sound clip.

Although it may sound trivial, but the June 2019 patches are already integrated with the OS. Although two third of June is over now, but the OnePlus 7 Pro currently has May patches with OxygenOS 9.5.8.

Apart from these changes, OnePlus added a handful changes related to the haptic motor, touch sensitivity, bluetooth audio compatibility etc. The camera app allegedly gets truckload of new features, but our tipster couldn’t point them out at this time.

Stay tuned, as we will bring more exclusive info about the OnePlus 7 Pro and work-in-progress features of OxygenOS.
