[Rolling out] Canadian LG G6 Android Pie update will release 'soon', confirmed by carriers

LG was the first major device maker to take the modularity route with the LG G5 back in 2016, but things turned out terrible as the company managed yet another poor performance in the flagship smartphone market following a similar stint with the LG G4.

While the LG G6 came in with a new look and ditched modularity for that matter, the only advantage it had over the competition coming from the likes of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ was better fingerprint placement.

Perhaps the major letdowns were the older processor and equal pricing to the superior Galaxy S8 and co., but for those who managed to grab the LG G6 through one of the many offers and discounts it received following its launch, there isn’t much to complain about this device.

Android 7.0 Nougat runs the show out of the box and naturally, the fact that its a flagship device meant that it was destined to receive at least two major OS upgrades.

The update to Android Oreo already rolled out and now it’s Android 9 Pie that has taken over. The OS has already rolled out to various markets across the globe, including the home country of Korea, Verizon Wireless and some European countries.

The update has also been reported in more Asian countries like Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore. The LG G6 variants sold in these countries have model numbers H870DS and H870DSU, the latter being the Plus variant.

Next in line to receive the LG G6 Android Pie update will be folks in Canada. According to Telus, G6 users should begin receiving their Pie update on October 16, which is actually this Wednesday.

If you are on Rogers, the LG G6 Android Pie update is scheduled as “coming soon.” It’s likely that the rollout could be on the same day as the Telus variant, but we cannot be so sure about this.
