Motorola the American multinational company incurring loss of $4.3 billion during 2007-2009 resulted in the division of the company into two public companies Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions. Motorola Solutions is considered to be the direct successor of Motorola. Motorola Mobility was sold to Google in 2012, and acquired by Lenovo in 2014.
While it was owned by Google, Motorola used to be incredibly active and took no time to roll out major OS upgrades. Motorola used to be next in line after the Google Nexus devices. But, it all went topsy turvy once Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility.
Major Android OS upgrades now take ages to roll out. Monthly security patch updates are rolled out once, only after two three months. Such is the fate of Moto G6 Play launched in 2018. It won’t be wrong to state that, once what used to be a specialty is where the company is lagging behind today i.e software updates.
In a world, where Smartphones are receiving Android 10, Moto G6 Play is scheduled to receive Android Pie. Although, Motorola can’t be blamed entirely as the updates rolled out are carrier specific. The service providers takes some time to test the new Android versions before the actual roll out to occur, for smooth upgradation of the devices.
Unlike other carriers, AT&T seems to be the last on the list to join Moto G6 Play Android Pie club. Other variants from the likes of Verizon, and Sprint have already pushed the update through OTA. Also, the unlocked Moto G6 Play variant have received the upgrade in April.
Earlier, it came into light that Android pie was being rolled out for Google Fi variant of Moto G6 play. Months later, AT&T has now confirmed about the roll outs of Android Pie for Moto G6 Play.
Along with Android Pie,the Changelog also confirms September security patch update. The total size of the update is 1.12 GB, so make sure you have enough available space before attempting Update.
We can’t complain about anything, it is relieving that Motorola hasn’t forgotten a year old device. At least, a late update is better than a no update.
