Asus has a variety of smartphones that it sells in various segments, but the most popular one is the revamped ZenFone Max family of devices, the latest of them being Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2.

The Taiwanese company is not only rolling out the latest Android security patches to the ZenFone Max Pro M2 but also its predecessor, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 as well as the 2017 flagship phone, the ZenFone 4 Pro.

Asus ZenFone 4 Pro was unveiled in Aug. 2017

One interesting fact here, though, is that while the ZenFone Max Pro M2 and Max Pro M1 are both receiving updates based on Android 9 Pie, the ZenFone 4 Pro, a two-year-old but still very capable flagship phone, still runs Android Oreo, its first OS upgrade.

Apparently, Asus says it is still evaluating the possibilities of upgrading the ZenFone 4 Pro to Android Pie and at this point, they can’t say if or when the OS will be ready. It’s quite absurd considering that lower-end ZenFone 4 models got updated to Pie, their second OS upgrade.

Sorry, we’re afraid the Android 9.0 (Pie) update plan is still under evaluation. At this moment we are unable to confirm if or when the ZS551KL will receive the upgrade to Android 9.0 (Pie). Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause.

Android OS upgrades aside, the three devices are getting new security patch levels with the incoming updates. The ZenFone Max Pro M2 is receiving an update that installs software version 16.2017.1906.069, but its targeting the Russian (RU) variant with model number ZB631KL.

As you can see from the changelog above, the ZenFone Max Pro M2 update bundles July and August security patches alongside a fix for an NFC issue that some users have been experiencing. This issue was triggered by the June update.

As for the ZenFone Max Pro M1, the update is arriving as version 16.2017.1908.057 and is targeting the Indian variant.

The variant in question has model number ZB601KL and while we’d like to believe the incoming ZenFone Max Pro M1 update also installs August security patches, this detail hasn’t been mentioned in the provided changelog seen above.

Besides the updated security patch level, the new update for the ZB601KL model also fixes vibration issue during phone calls and display system issue as well as performing the usual bug fixes and system-wide stability improvements.

In the case of ZenFone 4 Pro, the update is arriving as version 15.0410.1908.113 and is targeting both the WW and RU variants of the device. Similar to the ZenFone Max Pro M1, Asus hasn’t revealed details of the updated security patch level.

If you own any of the three Asus smartphones, the new update should hit your device soon. We haven’t come across cases of the OTA rollout, but with the changelog live, it won’t be long before you receive a download notification to install the update.
