New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

The major reason people keep falling for Google Pixel phones is to receive timely software updates. The search giant is the only Android vendor that promises to provide at least three years of software support to its devices.

OnePlus also seems to have taken this route. The company gave the OnePlus 3 and 3T three OS upgrades and has similar plans for the OnePlus 5 and 5T. This is one of the reasons the popularity of the company’s devices keeps growing, but the same can hardly be said of Asus.

Sure, the Taiwanese company isn’t the worst there is in terms of releasing software updates. In fact – and being fair by all means – Asus has done a pretty decent job with software updates, both for its budget/midrange and flagship devices.

ZenFone Max Pro M1

Earlier this week, the company released its first Android 10 stable update and obviously, the destination was the Asus ZenFone 6 aka Asus 6Z. This is the current flagship phone by Asus and it was always going to get the ZenUI 6 update ahead of others.

While Asus 6Z users definitely have the bragging rights, early adopters of Android 10 aren’t having it all merry. Apparently, several issues have popped up since the ZenFone 6 Android 10 update arrived, the major one being the broken Google Pay.

After the update to Android 10, some ZenFone 6 users say the device has been stripped-off its Google Play Protect credentials. With the device now failing the SafetyNet test, it means you cannot access and actually use services like Google Pay, something people aren’t happy about.

After upgrading: in google play settings my device “not certified in Play protect”, so i cant use google pay.

Apparently, the ZenFone 5Z had a similar issue when the update to Android Pie arrived, but the bug was addressed in a software update. Granted, affected ZenFone 6 users can rest assured that a fix should be available soon.

While at it, we hope Asus will also address some other issues that have also popped up since the ZenFone 6 Android 10 update arrived, more so the theming issue.

Accent color doesn’t change using developer options. Thanks though for the update.

Anyone tried the ‘Theming’ in Developer Options? The accents don’t seem to work. As far as I can tell, they should change from the default Blue accents all over. Rebooting just changed it back to default.

After the update, some users say theming doesn’t work as intended, so we hope Asus will fix this issue and others in the coming update. We will keep an eye on future updates and inform you when these issues are addressed.

Update (November 7)

A new incoming ZenFone 6 Android 10 stable build brings improved sound quality and optimizations to the system update mechanism and stability. However, we still don’t know whether Asus fixed the SafetyNet issue. Take a look at this article to know more.
