Original story (published on March 19) follows:

Asus launched the ZenFone 6 (aka Asus 6z) as their flagship device for the year 2019. The device, as expected, packed in all the flagship specs like Snapdragon 855, a massive 5,000 mAh battery, etc.

One thing that was able to catch the eye of the smartphone community was its motorized flip camera module that acts as the primary as well as the front camera.

The phone has already got the Android 10 update and in fact, is running on the February 2020 security patchset. However, a few days ago, we have reported that the Asus ZenFone 6 (Asus 6z) got a new update (V17.1810.2002.137) which optimized the system stability.

But, it seems like the update, in place of optimizing the system stability, brought in a bug with it. Several users took to the official forum of Asus ZenFone, complaining about the battery drain or fast power consumption after the latest update (.137).

I also feel the power consumption increases after updating to the latest version

How to use it from morning to noon, at least 40-50% are left, and now only 15% are left

zenfone 6 battery issue

Since last week, I feel that FB is super power consuming, but I just check the latest development occasionally, and it consumes too much power in a few minutes! Any suggestions how to deal with.

fb bug zenfone 6

Yesterday after updating the program, the charging of the receiver changed slowly, and I even fell flat. The entire phone became hot. The power-down speed was twice as high as before. People will get better after the update. The next time you buy a mobile phone, you really need to think carefully

zenfone bug

Seeing so many reports piling up regarding the battery drain and power consumption issues after the V17.1810.2002.137 update, an Asus moderator stated that after collecting relevant data, it seems like the Facebook app is the culprit behind this issue.

The moderator also proposed a workaround for this issue where the users are required to force stop the Facebook app when they are not using it and refuse facebook to auto-start.

We’re still collecting more data about this battery drain but initially everything we’ve seen so far, points to a service in the facebook app. Short term solution is to refuse facebook to auto-start and force stop the app when you don’t need it.

asus moderator workaround

Though this fix seemed to have worked, users of the Asus ZenFone 6 (Asus 6z) have also advised Asus not to make apps like Facebook, a part of the System Application as there are several users that do not use Facebook.

Let us know in the comments below if this workaround helped to fix this issue on your Asus ZenFone 6 (Asus 6z) or not?

Update 1 (March 23)

The issue has now been resolved. Here’s what a Zentalk forums moderator said lately:

Facebook updated their apps so the issue has been resolved. No need to downgrade
