Asus ROG Phone 3 camera zoom issue to be address with an upcoming update; display red tint issue to also be improved

The ROG Phone 3 was released last year with Android 10 onboard with the company’s ROG UI that adds a gamer-ish overlay to the user interface.

Being a gaming-centric smartphone, the ROG Phone 3 packs in some of the best hardware and can run just about any game you can throw at it without breaking a sweat.

However, it’s clear that the company cut some corners with the device. Soon after users got their hands on the ROG Phone 3, users began noticing black crush and other display issues.

Not much later, a few other problems came to light such as the slow charging, PUBG Mobile ghost touch, and VoLTE issues.

Fortunately, Asus has addressed some of these issues already, however, others might not be fixed at all.

Now a couple of new problems have surfaced online. To kick things off, it seems that users are facing a camera zoom issue.

According to reports from Asus ROG Phone 3 users (1, 2), using the zoom feature in the camera application does not work as the zoom is visible in the viewfinder/preview, however, the captured image isn’t zoomed in.

As you can see, the camera preview and the actual image are totally different. Of course, a manual crop would get you the same result but this should not happen in the first place.

Luckily, the camera zoom issue on the Asus ROG Phone 3 might be fixed soon as a moderator has stated that it will be addressed via an upcoming update.

Coming to the second problem. Apparently, users have been dealing with a red tint issue with the display on the ROG Phone 3.

The display red tint issue is most noticeable when there’s a gray background and the brightness is low as per reports.

I am facing this issue every time I use youtube, instagram or any other app where background color seems to be greyish at low brightness. The red tint seems to apper only at greyish part which is annoying as it already suffering from black crush problem. (Source)

The red tint is too obtrusive and the content consumption is indeed worst due to it. Too much money spent for a “mediocre” display. Although, 144Hz is a monster setting but the color rendering of the screen makes it a less than enjoyable experience during the night. (Source)

And yet again, an Asus mod has responded to one of the complaints claiming that Asus is currently “tuning the display for best output.” However, the issue may not be able to be fixed entirely.

It’s unclear how many updates it would take for there to be any noticeable improvements. Nevertheless, we’re glad the company is at least making some efforts to fix the two issues.

At present, the company has also kick-started the Android 11 beta program for the ROG Phone 3. The company has not yet divulged any specifics regarding the availability of the stable update.
