Among many of the Asus phones that are due to receive the long-awaited Android Pie, ZenFone 4 is one. ZenFone 4, as you may know, is part of the company’s 2017 ZenFone 4 lineup of devices which also includes Zenfone 4 Pro, Zenfone 4 Selfie/Selfie Pro and Zenfone 4 Max/Max Pro phones.
While some of the ZenFone 4 lineup devices like ZenFone 4 Max (ZC554KL) and ZenFone 4 Selfie (ZD553KL) have already received Android Pie AOSP beta, ZenFone 4 (ZE554KL) and others await to get to taste Pie even in beta.
For a quick refresher, ZenFone 4 is a mid-range device that is powered by Snapdragon 630 SoC and was originally shipped with Android Nougat and the company’s skin ZenUI 4. In one of or recent coverages, we highlighted the Taiwanese OEM plans to bump ZenFone 4 to Android Pie in June.
Here’s what a forums moderator said while sharing the information with some inquirers on ZenTalk:
ZE554KL is expected to upgrade to Android Pie in June.
As promised, Asus delivered Android 9.0 Pie on ZenFone 4 units right in time. The information came from a ZenTalk forums moderator a few hours back. The announcement read the update bears bulid number 16.0620.1905.10 and brings Pie along with an updated security patch.
【Release Note】
1.Upgrade to Android P
2.Update google security patch
Wait before you get excited to install Pie on your ZenFone 4 unit.
As of now, while writing this story, it appears the company has take down the announcement page soon after making it live. Luckily, we were able to grab a screenshot of the same, right in time. But we are not sure why Asus deleted it.
Anyway, we are keeping a close watch on the matter, and will let you know as and when ZenFone 4 Pie update release notes announcement gets up again or we get any other information regarding this.
Update 1 (June 18)
Some users managed to grab the download link right in time. So those of you who wish to manually flash the update, here you go. Beware that we haven’t tested this update yet, so we are not sure of any issues or problems the update may bring.
Update 2 (June 18)
The announcement post is back up again. However, there seems to be a major change – while the post that went live yesterday (see screenshot in the story above) said it’s stable Android Pie update, the revised announcement now says it’s beta (version 16.0620.1905.10
).
Following is exactly what the new change log reads:
This is the Android 9 (Pie) Beta version, so the user experience will be different from Android 8 (Oreo). If you are used to and prefer using Android 8 (Oreo), we recommend that you continue with the Android 8 (Oreo) version.
Android 9 (Pie) AOSP Beta version will not be supported with routine updates
Update 3 (June 18)
A user recently shared some images of the update.
