Update (April (09):
Fix for AA’s pixelated display issue will be rolling out in June. More information here.
Original story:
Back in January, mainstream tech media highlighted an Android Auto issue, wherein the head unit’s display appeared pixelated for some, specifically while using the Google Maps app (as can be seen in the featured image).
Those affected said
Maps will work great initially, but slowly become increasingly pixelated over time until its practically unusable. I have to switch back and forth between the home screen and maps to resolve the issue.
While a Google employee Yurrim earlier said they are working with the Android OS team to address the issue, the company is now suspecting the problem may have something to do with the chipset firmware. Another Google employee Jesse (from Android Auto team) recently posted on the same thread, saying
We are working with the Google Play Services team to provide a workaround for most of the affected phone models. The root problem seems to be related to the chipset firmware. We are working with our partners to validate and fix it. Please note that we are not able to share the timeline at this time.
Apparently, those affected will have to wait until Google figures out what the actual cause is, and does the needful to fix the same. We hope they do it sooner than later. Meanwhile, we are keeping tab on all related developments and will update the story, as and when anything news worthy comes up.
