New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 11, 2020) follows:

Many modern-day cars come with a native Android Auto system that connects to your Android phone to allow for hands-free interaction with the phones. The driver uses the car’s controls like the microphone and steering buttons to interact with the phone.

Like any other software, Android Auto isn’t perfect and when things start going south, it can be quite frustrating.

A few days ago, for instance, several Android Auto users started reporting issues after the latest Google App update. Apparently, the update introduced an ‘Assistant reading messages in English’ bug and a call button glitch on steering wheels, just to name but a few.

The latter issue has already been acknowledged and in fact, a fix is coming soon to address the bug. Other Android Auto issues that have also been acknowledged by Google are related to the internet connection error, unresponsive Google Assistant and inability to unmute music after ending a call.

Close to a year ago, Android Auto started experiencing an issue where unmuting music after ending a phone call required one to unplug the phone from the car head and plug it back in, which is annoying, to say the least.

A few days ago, a Community Specialist with the Android Auto team made the following statement right below the report in the screenshot above, basically acknowledging the issue:

Thanks for the reports. We need more information to further investigate this issue. We would like to request bug reports from a few of you to help diagnose. We’ll send you an email individually with instructions on how to capture a bug report. Please reply directly to the email with your information. Thanks!

The story is also the same for the issues related to unresponsive Google Assistant and the internet connection error when trying to send a message. Unlike the music issue, the Google Assistant bug seems to have been brought by the recent January update.

And the Android Auto Team has been quick to acknowledge both issues, promising to work on them. However, there is no mention of when the fix will be pushed to affected units.

Thanks for the reports. The Assistant team is aware of this issue and currently investigating. We’ll update this thread when we have more information available. Thanks!

Update (February 17, 2020)

The Android Auto Team recently made some updates regarding not just the issues highlighted above, but also several others that are affecting many Android Auto users.

Apparently, some of the issues with Waze GPS location, Google Assistant and voice commands not working, no ringtone or notification sound when using Android Auto on car display, and Amazon Music taking over 3rd-party media apps while playing music have already been addressed.

Google also notes that some of the bugs are still being looked into while others are now known to the affected car/phone makers. Check the details in the screengrab below.
