Huawei might be facing an uphill task convincing people outside China that indeed the Huawei Mate 30 phones are the handhelds to buy right now despite missing out on core Google Apps and Services out of the box.
The Mate 30 series was unveiled last week in Germany and even though the global availability is still hazy, sales for the 4G variants have already commenced in China. Despite the U.S. trade ban, the Mate 30 devices still come preinstalled with Android 10 and the all-new EMUI 10 layered on top.
As usual, Huawei is expected to spread this EMUI 10 love to more devices outside the Mate 30 realm, but of course, the software has to be extensively tested before fully commissioning the stable version to the public.
The beta testing program started earlier this month with the Chinese variants of the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro leading the way. The global variants later joined the party before the recruitment was expanded to accomodate the Mate 20 series, Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro.
Just yesterday, Honor started rolling out Android 10 beta to those who wantt to try the OS on their Honor 20, Honor 20 Pro, Honor V20, and Honor Magic 2 in China and is expected to go global in the coming days or weeks for that matter.
Before the global Magic UI 3.0 beta arrives, Huawei has opened the beta testing program to even more phones, this time the budget models in China. If you own any of the Honor 20i or Honor 10 Lite, EMUI 10 beta recruitment is now open.
Those using the Chinese variants of the Huawei P Smart 2019 and P Smart+ 2019, otherwise known as Huawei Enjoy 9S and Maimang 8, respectively, are also welcome to submit their interest to try Android 10 beta on their devices.
It’s interesting to note that the announcement post talks about EMUI 10 beta and not Magic UI 3.0 beta. Up until now, it has been clear that Honor devices will no longer run EMUI skin and instead, Magic UI will take over. But from the look of things, it doesn’t seem to.
Huawei P Smart 2019 users on model POT-AL00a will need at least EMUI 9.1.0.227 to make the cut while model POT-TL00a will need EMUI 9.1.0.226 to get Android 10 beta. For both models POT-AL00 and POT-AL10 of the P Smart+ 2019, you’ll need at least EMUI 9.1.0.226.
As for the Honor 20i and Honor 10 Lite, all eligible Chinese variants are required to have at least EMUI 9.1.0.226 running the show in order to qualify for the EMUI 10 beta program.
It’s not known when the global program will commence, but it shouldn’t be long before we get these details, so stay tuned.
