Alleged Poco X2 hands-on image teases the phone as a rebranded Redmi K30 (4G) for India

Fans of the Pocophone (Sold in India as POCO) have been an anxious lot. Since the launch of the POCO F1 back in August of 2018, there hasn’t been a follow-up device from the company.

Granted, there have been occasional leaks and a tweet confirming this and that then getting deleted. All in all, it is pretty clear that there’s going to be a successor to the POCO F1.

We are now seeing evidence to suggest that this new phone could be a rebranded Redmi K30 4G.

Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi K30 4G and the Redmi K30 5G in China in late 2019. The Redmi K30 4G, code-named “phoenix” features a Snapdragon 730G processor, while K30 5G features the Snapdragon 765G. A device codenamed “phoenixin” was later spotted, hinting towards an Indian version of the same device. You can read more on that here.

According to XDA Developer, a trusted Xiaomi tipster, revealed that he has obtained a Redmi K30 4G (phoenix) with the phoenixin ROM pre-installed. The screenshot shared shows the device POCO X2 as the model name.

Adding this to the multiple Geekbench results listings that are for a POCO X2 code-named phoenixin, and things begin to fall in place. From the listing, the GPU listed is Adreno 618 which suggests that the device runs on Snapdragon 730G. The benchmark scores also match the K30 4G.

There has also been a recent BIS listing of an upcoming POCO device with the model number M1912G7BI. The Redmi K30 4G devices have a the following model numbers; M1912G7BC and M1912G7BE. The last letters stand for India, China, and Europe respectively.

With these bits of information, adding them all up and you begin to see why the Redmi K30 4G might be launched as the POCO X2 in India, and perhaps globally.
