After being separated from Xiaomi, Redmi stepped into the game of affordable flagships. This path was already explored by Pocophone F1 though, thus the stance started an amalgamation of confusion and speculations. However, the Redmi K20 series truly began a revolution.

Right after the official release in China, Redmi K20 Pro was enlisted in the Android Q public beta testing alongside Mi 9 and Mi MIX 3 5G. Matter of fact, both Mi 9 and Redmi K20 Pro are supposed to get Android Q based MIUI builds real soon via beta channel.

Built on top of Android Q, the first semi-internal MIUI beta for Mi 9 got live yesterday. As a part of the weekly China beta (9.8.8 in this case), Redmi K20 Pro should get it next. And bingo! The build is finally here.

Unlike Mi 9, the changelog for Redmi K20 Pro is pretty much elaborate. There are numerous changes related to lock screen, status bar as well as the notification pane. Underlying Android version should be based on the recently released final beta of Q (Beta 6).

The security patch level in this build is based on September 2019, which could be a placeholder, cause we have seen the exact same scenario on Mi 9 as well. The kernel is based on 4.14 branch, while the MIUI version is still tagged as ’10’.

The system-wide dark mode toggle made its way from Mi 9 to Redmi K20 Pro too. The AMOLED friendly black UI is a real helper to reduce battery consumption. It is now obvious that MIUI 11 will contain this functionality from the beginning.

While the current Android Q beta update is intended for Chinese Redmi K20 Pro owners, it is technically possible to install it on Indian units as well. The upcoming Mi 9T Pro should be compatible with this beta too, but make sure to backup your data before playing with your daily driver.
