New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on April 22, 2021) follows:
OnePlus recently launched the OnePlus Watch, its take on the ever-growing wearable tech scene and while the launch had been preceded with high hopes from critics and OnePlus fans, the reception was a lot less glamorous.
A quick search for the initial reviews paints a picture of an ambitious product that promises a lot more than it delivers, some saying it falls somewhere between a fitness tracker and a smartwatch.
The fact that initial users were even unable to pair their devices to their phones dealt yet another blow to a product that was just trying to get off the ground.
Quick to assure its users that the product will get better, we saw OnePlus come out to promise features such as customizable quick replies and support for AoD on the OnePlus Watch via future updates.
Well today, OnePlus is rolling out the first OTA update to the OnePlus Watch, an update that is set to further improve the user experience on the watch while fixing some bugs. Here’s the changelog for the OnePlus Watch Software Update B.40.
– Improved GPS performance
– Improved accuracy of activity tracking (walking and running)
– Optimized heart rate monitoring algorithm
– Enabled notification app icons for the most frequently used apps
– Improved raise-to-wake function
– Optimized notification syncing algorithm
– Fixed some known bugs
-Improved system stability

This first update, OnePlus says, will be rolling out to devices in the US and Canada. This will later extend out to other countries in the coming days.
Along with the announcement of this update, OnePlus is also expressing its commitment to this product as it also announced a list of features that are set to come in future OTA updates.
– Add Always-on Display feature
– Add remote camera control of Android smartphones (Android phones running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above) from OnePlus Watch
– Add 12-hour time format
– Add 4 languages: German, Italian, Spanish, and Polish
– Enable all 110+ workout modes
– Enable AI watch face
Once these features are enabled, we should see the OnePlus Watch competing and fairing better against the mainstream offers from other OEMs.
Also worth noting is that, most of these features that are set to come, are already staples and commonplace features among WearOS devices.
OnePlus’ decision to go for its in-house RTOS might be hurting the OnePlus Watch at the moment but it still kills every other smartwatch in terms of battery life.
We shall continue to follow the progress of the OnePlus Watch as it gets these new features so stay tuned for that and more.
