Original story (published on May 25, 2020) follows:

Galaxy Watch Active 2 offers its users several features, but the monitoring feature Electrocardiogram (ECG) is well expected. The electrocardiogram (ECG) will calculate pulse rate and rhythm, and provide indirect proof of blood flow to the heart muscle.

But before this advanced feature can be made available to the watch, it needs to get government approval. FYI, ECG feature was earlier planned to go live in Q1 2020, but things didn’t go as expected as the OEM required extra time to complete the formalities as well as proper testing.

And now, it seems that Samsung has managed to get at least teh Korean government’s approval. The OEM has announced that the Soth Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has approved the ECG functionality for the Galaxy Watch Active 2. So, the users in South Korea will soon benefit from this awesome feature.

This function will be activated by upgrading the Samsung Health app, which enables tracking of the ECG and blood pressure. As for how this feature will function, users will have to position a finger gently on the back/top button for 30 seconds while holding their forearm still.

It is now quite obvious that local authority approval plays an important role in when this feature will be available in your country. FDA approval is required in the U.S. to get the feature.

This clearance has to go through the department of health, and because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a high likelihood of things getting delayed for the other regions.

For now, the feature will be added to the Koren Watch Active 2 units, and other countries should follow soon. Other Galaxy Watch devices will also get the support later on. If there are any further developments about the same, we will keep you informed.
