[Update: Coming soon for Global models] Here's why your Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro or Note 9S hasn't received MIUI 12 update yet

Many Xiaomi devices that were eligible for an update to MIUI 12 have bagged the update. We have been maintaining a dedicated tracker and you can check that out here.

As the company strives to move past this rollout, there are a few devices that haven’t bagged this update yet.

At the time of writing, devices such as the Redmi Note 8, Redmi 8, Redmi Note 9S, just to mention but a few, were yet to bag this update.

In this post, we shall look at the global Redmi Note 9 Pro, not to be mistaken with the Indian Redmi Note 9 Pro, which is sold globally as the Redmi Note 9S. Launched earlier this year, this device ran Android 10-based MIUI 11 out of the box.

The device is in line for an update to MIUI 12 and at the time of writing, MIUI 12 update is only available for the Note 9 Pro and Note 9S in select regions outside China.

It has been hinted that the update will arrive soon in other regions, but there is no explanation as to why it is taking too long.

This, despite previous confirmation that this update would hit the eligible devices in October. We’re left with a week to the end of the month so, what’s the status of this update?

Well, when asked by a user about the state of MIUI 12 for the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9S, a Xiaomi Community Forum moderator says:

We don’t have any information or any ETA for the update. From what we know, the updates for Note 9S and 9 Pro are in testing, so kindly wait.

With that, we don’t really know when the rest of Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9S users across the globe will get updated to MIUI 12.

However, it is pretty consoling to know that however late, the update is still being worked on.

Xiaomi has finally begun rolling out the stable MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 9S in Europe. This new software is available as version 12.0.1.0.QJWEUXM and will be available to a limited number of users at present. More details here.

The MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 9 Pro is yet to be released to the global variants. And responding to a user’s query regarding the availability of the update, a Mi forum mod stated that it will indeed begin rolling out soon.
