Redmi Note 6 Pro Android 10 update "might not" come; Redmi 6 sailing in the same boat

Xiaomi’s Redmi series has had significant success during the years it has been on the market to a point the company decided to make it independent.

Today, the Redmi line of devices no longer focuses on the entry-level end of the business. We now have devices like the Redmi K30 Pro and its predecessor the Redmi K20 Pro boasting premium specs and features but at very reasonable prices compared to the competition.

Prior to Redmi going independent, Redmi devices were known to receive a single OS upgrade, but with the aforementioned devices now in the picture, we are likely to see some changes to this software update policy.

However, for devices like the Redmi Note 6 Pro and Redmi 6, the same one OS upgrade policy is likely to keep its place. Granted, there shouldn’t be an official Redmi Note 6 Pro Android 10 update from Xiaomi. The device has Oreo out of the box and already got updated to Pie.

With the only guaranteed OS upgrade already released, don’t get your hopes too high as far as the Redmi Note 6 Pro Android 10 update is concerned. Matter of fact, a Mi forum moderator says the device might not get the update to Android 10, but you’d be better off ignoring the optimism.

As noted, the story isn’t different for the Redmi 6 Android 10 update. Like the Note 6 Pro, the device also has Oreo preinstalled and has already been upgraded to Pie, the only guaranteed OS upgrade.

When asked about the prospects of the device picking up an update to Android 10, the same Mi forum moderator who appeared to give a glimpse of hope for Note 6 Pro owners blatantly dismissed any similar hopes for the Redmi 6.

On the brighter side, Xiaomi devices are known to be some of the most developer-friendly out there. Soon or later, the likes of LineageOS 17.1 will have a ready Android 10 firmware for these devices. So far, the official LOS 17.1 is already available for the Poco F1, Mi 8, Mi 6, Mi MIX 2, and Mi MIX 2S.

Unofficially, the likes of Redmi 7A, Redmi 8, Redmi Note 8 Pro, and even the Redmi 5A, among others, already have it. So yeah, the Redmi Note 6 Pro and Redmi 6 should also get LOS 17.1 update at some point.
