European Samsung Galaxy A50 Android 10 update seems distant as device picks up April security patch

Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy A50 was one of the best selling Samsung devices in 2019, even outselling the flagship Samsung Galaxy S10. And for good reason. At the price, the A50 was one solid device. Couple that with Samsung’s solid brand recognition and you begin to see the winning recipe.

The Samsung Galaxy A50 has since been updated to the latest Android 10-based One UI 2 in many regions. You can read more about that here.

However, many other regional variants of this very device are still stuck in the same Android Pie that we saw the device launch with back in early 2019. This includes some Galaxy A50 devices in the United States.

The US regional variants of the Galaxy A50, and some variants of the same in the European Union (EU), are still running Android 9 Pie. These devices recently got updated to the March 2020 Android security patch level based on Android 9 Pie. You can read more on that here.

It might seem as though these regional variants of the Galaxy A50 are hexed or something because it has been over a month since the other counterparts got updated to Android 10. Turns out, these users might have to wait even longer for an Android 10 update.

Users of the Galaxy A50 in Europe have reported receiving an update on their device. But this is not the much-awaited Android 10 update. Instead, this is the latest April 2020 Android patch update.

At the time of writing, the EU variant of the Samsung Galaxy A50 had received the update with build number A505FNXXS4ATD1 in the UK, Poland, Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Nordic countries, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, and Switzerland among others.

This is a blow to the millions of Galaxy A50 users in these regions who have been waiting for an Android 10 build for months. This even at a time when many are already switching gears onto the next version of Android, Android 11/R.
