Original story (published on April 2) follows:
The Realme X50 5G was announced in January 2020 and for the power users of Android, i.e. those of you who enjoy tweaking system settings, rooting, installing custom ROMs, flashing modded apps, etc. thanks to Realme, can now officially unlock the bootloader via the unlock tool.
Besides, from time to time, Realme, on its official website has posted the official method to unlock the bootloader. And this time around, it is time for the Realme X50 5G users.
One of the moderators on the official Realme community channel has posted the official unlock tool for the Realme X50 5G using which you can start to unlock the bootloader of your phone.
Let us take a look at the steps to unlock the bootloader.
Unlock bootloader
So, before we begin, make sure that you take a complete backup of your device because unlocking the bootloader wipes off the data on your device. Moreover, keep your device charged to a minimum of 60%. And you will need a USB cable and a PC/Laptop for unlocking.
You also need to download the Unlock Tool apk on your Realme X50 5G units. Below is the link for download:
Once you are done with all the basic prerequisites, then you can head below for step by step instructions on how to unlock the bootloader.
Step 1
You need to enable the Developer Options on your phone for which, head over to Settings>>About Phone>>tap on the build number or version number 7 times.
Now enable the OEM unlocking option under the Developer Options menu. Once that is done, open the unlock tool and click on “Start applying”.
Then, go through the Disclaimer and check ‘I have read and agreed to the aforesaid content’ and select “Submit application“.
Then you need to return back to the app interface and wait for about 15 minutes, so that the submitted application is checked by the Realme servers.
Once the review is complete and your unlock tools say Review Successful then, you need to select Start the in-depth test and the device will reboot automatically.
Step 2
Once you are done with step 1 then, you need to install the Fastboot tool on your PC (Windows or Linux or Mac). Now connect the phone to PC/Mac with a USB cable.
Extract the contents of the ADB and Fastboot tools in a folder and open a command prompt windows in the same folder where you have extracted the contents of the Fastboot tools.
In the Fastboot mode, follow the steps below:
- Enter the command:
fastboot flashing unlock
- Press “Enter” on your keyboard
Once the command is executed, your phone will pop-up with an interface, where you need to press the volume down button to select Unlock The Bootloader option, and then press the power button to confirm.
That’ it! the bootloader of your Realme X50 5G is now unlocked. The cherry on top is that the kernel source code for Realme X50 5G is now available on GitHub.
This gives the developers a free-hand to eventually able to come up with TWRP, custom kernel, ROMs and much more with the help of these goodies.
Update 1 (April 6)
Bootloader unlock is now available for Realme Q as well. Head here for the detailed step-by-step process.
