New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on March 27, 2020) follows:

The Mi A3 Android 10 update journey has been quite eventful. After lots of confusion around the availability of the software, the OS was finally pushed to a small set of Mi A3 units at the tail-end of last month.

Less than a few days into the rollout, multiple reports of users who were experiencing issues with the fingerprint scanner started showing up. To control the amount of damage the buggy Android 10 update may cause, Xiaomi quickly halted the rollout.

The company spent a couple or so weeks fixing the issues in the first Mi A3 Android 10 update and when things were in order, the rollout resumed. This time, a newer March 2020 security was also thrown in there to spice things up.

For the most part, we thought things were going according to plan, especially after the official download link popped up online for those who wish to upgrade to Android 10 manually.

But then the unexpected happened. Yesterday, we started seeing reports of a new software update for Mi A3 owners who had already received the update to Android 10. The update’s changelog mentioned the March patch – the same that came as part of the latest Mi A3 Android 10 build.

As seen above, the OTA package is quite huge for a mere security patch. Even more interesting is that users couldn’t get to install the update on their Mi A3 units. And then moments, later, we bumped into fresh reports that Xiaomi was rolling out new Android Pie-based updates to the A3.

As of this writing, the new updates are available for the global and European variants of the Mi A3 as versions 10.3.16.0.PFQMIXM and 10.3.17.0.PFQEUXM, respectively.

As it turns out, these packages are being pushed to Mi A3 units that are yet to receive Android 10 and not an option to roll back from Android 10 as we had reported earlier. Granted, it means the recent OTA rollout for the Mi A3 Android 10 update has been halted, hence the Pie-based OTAs.

With all these, one wonders what Xiaomi is really up to, though it seems clear that the Mi A3 Android 10 OTA update is no longer being pushed hence the decision to roll out a new March security patch for those still on Pie.

Since April is almost here, these units had to cross over with the latest security patch, so Xiaomi had no choice but to push the Pie-based patch as they fix the Android 10 build for those yet to receive it. As for when the rollout will resume, no one knows.

Of course, you can stick around PiunikaWeb and we’ll let you know when the update resumes rolling out.
