[Eligible devices] Xiaomi MIUI 12 update (Android 11): Purported list of devices for first batch shows up

Xiaomi in September 2019 took to the stage to announce the official details of the MIUI 11 update. At the time, the company was also launching the Mi 9 Pro 5G, a device that has since been succeeded by the even better and more powerful Mi 10 Pro 5G.

Xiaomi started rolling out the closed MIUI 11 beta update on the very day and three days later, on September 27, the open beta program went live for 17 devices in China. But prior to that, stories of the MIUI 11 update had been doing rounds for months.

The same script seems to be rewriting itself with respect to the MIUI 12 update. As it stands, we already have some details of the update, months away from the official availability of the stable version.

We’ve recently shed some light on the features to expect, purported timeline, and even when Xiaomi is expected to begin development. Now, in another related development, we have what is alleged to be a list of devices that will be upgraded to MIUI 12 in the first wave, although not official.

Going by the timeline leaked a few days ago, the MIUI 12 internal beta update will be released in September followed by the public beta in October 2020. As for the stable version, it should arrive in December 2020.

When it arrives, the first wave of devices to pick up the MIUI 12 update will reportedly be the Mi 10, Mi 9, Mi 9 SE, Mi 9 Pro, and the Mi 8 series. Next in line will be the Mi CC9 Pro aka Mi Note 10, Mi CC9e, Mi MIX 3, Mi MIX 2S, and the Mi MIX 2.

Devices in the Redmi series consisting of the Redmi K30, Redmi K20 Pro, Redmi K20, Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi Note 8, Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 7, Redmi 8, Redmi 8A, Redmi 7, and Redmi 7A will get it last. Of course, this isn’t the final or even the official roadmap, so expect future changes.

It’s worth noting that while MIUI 12 is expected to be based on Android 11, not all eligible Xiaomi/Redmi devices will get the new OS as well. Xiaomi provides over three years of MIUI software support without changing the base OS, so yeah, the MIUI 12 update won’t be any different.

An updated list has now surfaced that conveys that Android 11 internal testing has begun on Mi 10 Ultra, Redmi 9A, and Poco C3 (rebranded Redmi 9C that is yet to release). While Poco M2/Redmi 9 Prime has been added to the list of the confirmed devices, Redmi 10X 4G/Redmi Note 9 has been taken off of the list.
