Essential Phone is a company that has a pretty simple story of rising to fame and biting the dust. The company was headed by the co-founder of Android Andy Rubin and had a promising product, indeed (at least on paper).

Surviving through initial hiccups, the Essential Phone PH-1 made its way into the category of one of those devices that receive security and firmware updates on time with Google’s Pixel devices.

Following its debut in 2017, the device grabbed the Android 10 update on day-one alongside Google Pixel phones. Moreover, it currently runs on Android 10 with February 2020 security patch.

Unfortunately, Essential could not keep up with the advancement and pace of today’s smartphone world and announced its pack-up in February 2020.

Essential Phone shutting down

This also confirmed that no other Essential gadget (or phone for that matter) would see the light of the day and they are done for good. However, those who are still hanging onto their Essential phone can now flash the unofficial LineageOS 17.1.

For naive, the LineageOS custom ROM grants tons of customization, security, and privacy, and developer features that you can tweak on your Android device after installing LineageOS.

Coming back to the LineageOS 17.1 for Essential Phone PH-1, there are no known issues as of now and all the features seem to be working fine. All credits go to XDA member Rybo713 for sharing this guide and ROM.

You can install the custom ROM on your phone by following the guide below:
