New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on March 10, 2020) follows:

It is always refreshing when your device gets a new update. These updates might be anything from regular Android security patches, to feature updates or massive whole OS upgrades.

In the past couple of months, Android phone users across the globe have been receiving Android 10 updates from their respective phone makers and that is set to continue, seeing as some phone makers have scheduled updates for some eligible devices going into Q2 of 2020.

Asus, a company well known for its computer and laptop business is also a player in the smartphone industry. The company is today rolling out new Android security patches to a number of its devices.

The Asus ZenFone Max Pro(ZB601KL and ZB602KL) are both getting updated to the latest Android security patch level. While Asus does not expressly state which month the security patch is for, we assume that it is February 2020’s.

The update brings the software version running on these two models to version 16.2017.2002.061. Below is the update’s changelog according to Asus.

1. Updated Android security patch
2. Updated APN list
3. Fixed garbled string of “Do Not Disturb Suggestion” in RU language

4. Fixed Time zone can’t be changed automatically issue
5. Fixed the problem “Gallery is Running” notification popping up randomly

The changelog for this update is a little different from the Mi variants and reads as follows;

As of the time of writing, Asus indeed had provided the download link to the firmware for the Zenfone Max Pro M1 Download link. The BIOS and Firmware page has been updated with the download link and you can access it here.

Zenfone Max Pro M2 users are not as lucky as Asus is yet to provide download links to the BIOS and Firmware update. The download page for the Max Pro M2 firmware has NOT been updated with the download link as yet.

These updates are all based on Android 9 Pie, at a time when early builds of Android 11 have already surfaced. It is not always that we see a phone maker being a laggard in this era.

To be fair though, we have seen Android 10 beta for both the M1 and the M2 variants of the Zenfone Max Pro in the recent past. Granted, these updates were very buggy.

If you absolutely can’t wait for Android 10 update to officially drop for your Zenfone Max Pro M1, you might want to look somewhere else. The beauty of Android is in its community.

Aftermarket Android firmware-maker, LineageOS (previously CyanogenMod), has an unofficial release of its Android 10-based Lineage OS 17. This is available for the Zenfone Max Pro and you can install it on your device. You can read more about that here.

Update (March 11, 2020)

A new report has just surfaced purporting that Asus is still evaluating the update to Android 10 for the ZenFone Max Pro M1. See the full details here.
