New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on March 09, 2020) follows:
Asus ROG Phone 2 owners taking part in Android 10 beta program have had to deal with 9 beta versions of the firmware, the last one having arrived a couple or so days ago.
At the time, we knew the stable ROG Phone 2 Android 10 wasn’t too far away owing to the minimal changes included in beta 9, but no one knew the exact date the OS would be released.
Earlier today, we reported about the supposed rollout of the update to the gaming phone based on what Asus had communicated via its Twitter account.
But not long after, the tweet was taken down without any formal explanation. While there were fears that the ROG Phone 2 Android 10 update may delay further, it seems the software is actually rolling out, this time for real.
The company has once again announced that Android 10 is available for the ROG Phone II and that some people will actually begin seeing it today going forward.
We’ve come across reports from actual users of the ROG Phone II, who have now received the upgrade to Android 10 as an OTA update. While it was thought Taiwan would be the only market to get it first, it seems the global edition is also picking up the update.
Picked up from ZenTalk Vietnam, the announcement post also says those in Vietnam will have to wait until March 17 in order to receive the new OS. When it arrives, it should hit ROG Phone 2 units as version 17.0210.2001.60, up from the current version 16.0631.1910.64.
Below is a summary of the changes the new update brings to the device:
– Upgrade the system to Android 10.
– Support for system updates via Google Play.
– Remove Go2Pay and tagging function in the library
– Support for AuraSync lighting profiles when attaching Lighting Armor Case
– Add advanced brightness settings to QuickSetting.
– Emergency calls are applied to some areas. Remove some related settings from Armory Crate
– Add settings to change the Power key Menu.
– Add gesture navigation master, full screen.
– Support Android 10 Dark Theme.
– Add “Recommended action” in advanced notification settings.
– Do not pin notifications when turning on System Light while playing music.
– Change Wifi icon design.
– Some 3rd party applications may not be compatible with Android 10.
– “Gestures on dark screen” will turn off after upgrading the system.
