Samsung Galaxy A50, A70, A20 & Tab S6 Android 10 update imminent as per WiFi Alliance certification

Samsung’s decision to hold a separate launch event for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip was vindicated after the GSMA effectively called off the MWC 2020 show due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Sure, the devices were still going to get a separate audience ahead of the main event in Barcelona. However, they won’t be getting the wider media coverage that is usually attracted by this event.

Sales for the new devices begin today in the U.S. and Korea, but even at times when everyone has their eyes on the shiniest Samsung devices yet, the company still has its eyes glued on older devices as well, the Galaxy A50, Galaxy A70, Galaxy A20, and the Galaxy Tab S6 among them.

Unveiled between March and July 2019 powered by Android Pie out of the box, these Galaxy devices are set to be upgraded to the latest One UI 2.0 based on Android 10 OS.

This is after the devices passed by the Wi-Fi Alliance for certification and now that the WFA has given the update a thumbs up, it’s only a matter of time before the rollout begins. As for when exactly no one knows.

In the official roadmap, Samsung says the Galaxy A70 and Galaxy Tab S6 Android 10 updates shouldn’t be expected until April 2020, which is still some way to go. Even if the updates begin rolling out earlier, some markets may have to wait until the said period to receive the OS, more so carrier variants in the U.S.

Speaking of carrier variants, not only has the WFA cleared the Wi-Fi only model SM-T860 of the Tab S6, but also the LTE model SM-T865 that is sold through major carriers in the U.S. and other regions.

As for the Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A20, their updates to One UI 2.0 isn’t expected until May and June 2020, respectively. But now that they’ve picked up WFA certifications, it’s likely that they could receive Android 10 ahead of schedule.
