New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on February 6, 2020) follows:
According to a Counterpoint Research report, the Samsung Galaxy A50 was Samsung’s second best-selling phone in 2019, only coming second to the Galaxy A10.
This is an impressive fete for a mid-range device but one that is not unexpected, especially seeing just how much value for money the device offered. What this also means is that there are a lot of Galaxy A50 users out here waiting for Android 10.
We know that the A50 is in line for an update to Android 10. We have also known for a while now that Samsung has been working on the Android 10 update for the A50. We also saw reports that the tests were going well and that Samsung would even roll the update ahead of schedule.
Initial timelines did set the Android 10 rollout to the A50 expected around April 2020. While there since has been no official word on when exactly this update is expected to drop, we are seeing signs that this will not take that much longer to roll out.
According to papers from the Wi-Fi Alliance, the Galaxy A50 running on Android 10 has just received Wi-Fi certification.
The A50 receiving this Wi-Fi certification means that Android 10 is not too far off. Usually, it takes a few weeks for an update to arrive once it starts picking up the required certifications.
The A50 has been a pretty well-updated device in its lifetime. Most recently we saw the device getting updated to February 2020 security patch level alongside the Galaxy A8 2018.
The Galaxy A50 remains a solid mid-range device even in 2020. Of course, if you want the latest and greatest, you might want to consider the Galaxy A51 which comes with Android 10 out of the box and a few more bells and whistles.
Update (February 6)
Samsung Galaxy A70 and A50s running Android 10 have also been spotted in Wi-Fi alliance certification papers. This means that these devices are also bound to get updated to Android 10 very soon.
