[Verizon rolling out] Verizon, T-Mobile Galaxy Note 9 One UI 2.0 update (Android 10) may arrive this Sunday

The stable Samsung Galaxy Note 9 One UI 2.0 update based on Android 10 started rolling out at the tail end of December 2019. As usual, this was directed at the carrier-unlocked models sold outside North America.

It’s not the first time that Exynos-branded Samsung flagship phones in Europe/Asia have received a software update ahead of their Snapdragon counterparts in the U.S. and Canada. It happens all the time.

Matter of fact, this is just how Samsung updates work, so no one should be surprised that three weeks later, the U.S. market has yet to see the Galaxy Note 9 Android 10 update roll out in stable version.

This wait, however, appears to be coming to an end, at least if related developments in the past one week can be believed. It all started a week ago when a Redditor asked about the Galaxy Note 9 One UI 2.0 update on Sprint.

Apparently, Samsung sent out the Galaxy Note 9 Android 10 firmware to carriers for approval last week Friday. Since the process takes about a week, the update should be ready to roll out on the final week of January 2020, but only if T-Mobile behaves.

This, you must be asking, comes from a Redditor (LTEX90) with a decent track record on Samsung matters and is supposedly a Samsung Dev. Those who frequent Samsung subreddits might know a thing or two about him. So yeah, his info can be trusted to some extent.

According to LTEX90, only one carrier is dillydallying the rollout process as it has yet to approve the firmware sent out last Friday. Last week, he had worries with T-Mobile and there is no reason to believe another carrier is the culprit here.

As it stands, the Galaxy Note 9 One UI 2.0 update should arrive in all of its stable glory as from next week Monday. Again, this is subject to the said carrier going through with the approval process.

Interestingly, the update will reportedly be available via the Smart Switch app on PC beginning this Sunday, with the wider OTA rollout to follow hours later.

And indeed, T-Mobile says it’s lining up a software update for Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9 and S9+ users beginning January 26 (Sunday), although there is no specific mention of Android 10 and One UI 2.0.

On January 26, 2020, an Android software update will be released for Samsung Note, Galaxy S9, and Galaxy S9+ phones. As part of this update, you will no longer be able to access multi-line settings directly from your phone. You can continue to access multiple mobile numbers with the T-Mobile DIGITS app for Android and T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app.

On the other hand, a Verizon customer support says the Galaxy Note 9 Android 10 update should be released before February 2020. This, by all means, adds more weight to the other developments relating to the device’s OS upgrade.

The fact that the Galaxy Note 9 hasn’t received another One UI 2.0 beta update since picking one two weeks ago also suggests the stable rollout is around the corner. In Canada, the wait could be longer, probably more than a month from now.

The update is now available on AT&T and Spectrum. We are seeing reports (1, 2) from users who managed to download and install it.
