New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 28, 2020) follows:

Even though Sony has quite a few powerful smartphones under its portfolio, it is just not getting the right mix for today’s competitive smartphone market.

Sony smartphones are known for their brilliant sound quality and display but it has failed to make an impact with the other aspects of its smartphones. In fact, in the update department also, Sony has not been able to impress its users.

Moreover, Sony joined the bandwagon of pushing Android 10 updates for its devices pretty late. Xperia XZ2 and XZ3 grabbed the Android 10 update this month.

But, even after coming so late, the Android 10 update, especially for the Xperia XZ2 and XZ3 lineup, tagged along several bugs and issues.

For instance, slow fingerprint authentication, no alarm sounds, low sound while audio recording, multiple apps crashes, battery drainage issues,  were prominent among them.

And it seems that taking into account these issues, Sony has allegedly paused the Android 10 update for Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ3 series for the time being.

Taking a look at the update distribution of Android 10 for Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ3, it shows that the rollout has been stopped well over two weeks ago.

Besides, in a query by one of the Xperia XZ2 users, when requested for a downgrade from Android 10, Sony Mobile support responded that all bugs and issues of the current Android 10 update are expected to be fixed by the Android 10.1 update which is due to arrive soon.

we cant downgrade the Android version running on the device as we are awaiting the release of Android 10.1 to resolve the version 10.0 issues. Your understanding is highly appreciated.

Note that there is no official confirmation that this statement is legit and made by Sony mobile support as there is no screenshot of the same, however, the text looks legit.

But nothing can be confirmed as there has been no information regarding Android 10.1 in Android 10 and there are no rumors or leaks that Google might bring it in near future (notably there was no “decimal point update version” in Android 9 as well).

So, we can expect a new bugfix update but, definitely not Android 10.1 as mentioned in the post shared by the user of Xperia XZ2. We will keep you in the loop until we have more information in this regard.

Update 1 (February, 11)

According to a new report, Sony has suspended the Android 10 update for the Xperia XZ2 and XZ3 due to major bugs. There are numerous bugs that have been reported by users like the slow fingerprint scanner, trouble in scrolling, camera force close, random screen errors etc.

This is the reason why the update was not rolled out in many of the regions. All we can do is hope that Sony comes up with a fix for these issues and begins rolling out Android 10 for XZ2 and XZ3.

Update 2 (February, 17)

In a recent development, Sony has resumed the rollout of Android 10 updates for the Xperia XZ2 and XZ3 series devices with the same software version i.e. 52.1.A.0.532 via OTA. You can read the complete story here.
