New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on January 27, 2020) follows:
The stable Galaxy S9 Android 10 update is expected to begin rolling out this week, at least according to several release timelines that Samsung has provided in various markets.
T-Mobile S9 users expected an update to arrive over the weekend with Android 10 on board, but it hasn’t. Samsung, on the other hand, also revealed One UI 2.0 update timelines for S9 owners in Europe and Brazil.
Going by these timelines, the Galaxy S9 Android 10 update should begin rolling out in some markets this week, with others joining the party next month. In Brazil, the S9 isn’t expected to receive the One UI 2.0 update until April 2020.
On Verizon Wireless, it seems, the wait will be almost similar to folks in Brazil, if the latest statement from a Verizon support is anything to go by. FYI, both variants have the Snapdragon chipset.
A Verizon user asked support about when to expect the Galaxy S9 One UI 2.0 update and in response, support said the carrier is planning to roll out a beta version first before pushing the stable update in March 2020.
The release of the January security patch was perhaps the closest hint that the Galaxy S9 Android 10 update would delay. But Samsung’s insistence on rolling out the update in January 2020 isn’t to be ignored as well, although this only affects the Exynos variants in select markets.
Apparently, the beta One UI 2.0 update for the S9 on Verizon will be released before the end of the month, probably this week. This rollout, if at all it goes through, should be limited to select units.
So far, only the U.S. unlocked Galaxy S9 has been able to access the One UI 2.0 beta program, so it’s interesting that Verizon is lining up a beta update of its own.
Update (January 29, 2020)
According to Samsung, the Verizon and AT&T variants of Galaxy S9 should receive the stable Android 10-based One UI 2.0 update in February. Details here.
